Purpose
To welcome and introduce surgeons, who are experts in fracture care, to chest wall injury and treatment, in order to expedite pulmonary recovery and improve outcomes for patients.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Articulate basic pulmonary anatomy and pathomechanics.
- Know the evidence in support of ORIF of Rib Fractures.
- Safely approach the anterior, lateral and posterior chest.
- Reduce and fix rib and sternum fractures.
- Understand opportunities for interprofessional care.
Who Should Attend?
Orthopedic and Trauma Surgeons who are knowledgeable in the physiology of bone
healing, biomechanical principles of stress and strain, use of fracture reduction tools
and devices. Surgical Fellows and Attendings who are eager to discover a new frontier of
anatomy and physiology, and apply surgical approaches to chest wall injury, with evidence
based indications for rib and sternum ORIF.
